Understanding the New CMS Hospital Star Rating Program

The CMS Hospital Star Rating program has evolved since its inception in 2015. This webinar will review the current measures in the 2021 Hospital Star Rating program and explain the seven step scoring methodology used by CMS. We will discuss several areas of concern held by hospital groups and industry leaders about the Star program methodology, how these concerns have been addressed in the newest methodology, and share results of a recent survey from quality leaders, which provide insights about how hospitals prioritize their quality improvement initiatives to achieve higher star ratings. 

Following this 60-minute webinar, participants will:

• List the five measure categories used in the 2021 Hospital Star Rating program.
• Describe at least two ways in which the current Hospital Star Rating program differs from previous methodologies.
• Summarize concerns from hospital groups and industry leaders about the Hospital Star Rating program and how the new methodology has addressed some of these concerns.
• Discuss at least four strategies used by leading hospitals to achieve higher star rankings.
